About Me

I’m Lauren.  This blog began as another study abroad blog as I documented my cultural encounters in Italy.  I’m no longer in Italy, and I’m no longer in college, but I’m still studying abroad.  As a TCK, I’ll be studying abroad for the rest of my life and hope to never stop learning.

I care about Jesus, faith, education, history, and the world, so my blog posts will almost all relate to one of those topics.  I’ve traveled to from Asia, to North America, to Europe, to the Caribbean.  When I was in high school and college, I thought I was going to be a teacher.  God had different plans, and now I work to train teachers in Haiti.

These pages are a collection of stories, thoughts, and questions.  Feel free to join me as we work to bring education to the world.  Hope to see you around.

    Hi Lauren,
I read your article,Empathy in the Classroom: Why Should I Care? in Edutopia. You have identified what all teachers should know and care about in order to support all students , no matter where they live. I was under the impression that intercultural competence, mainly intercultural communicative competence would improve our ability to reach students. My doctoral research proved otherwise. Empathy emerged as the one trait made a difference in the classroom.

Thanks for your comment Geraldine. I’m so glad that there is research being done in this area! I just downloaded your dissertation from your school website and am excited to read it!

Hi Lauren, I read your article, Empathy in the Classroom: Why Should I Care?. I am a parent in the Bay Area. I write a newsletter for our local school district. The theme of this spring’s newsletter is empathy. What you wrote is exactly the message we want to send. I hope it is okay that I referenced your article in the newsletter. If you like I can send you a link to the newsletter once it is published.
